ABOUT US

My husband and I were very lucky to be able to be able to purchase our field : ' Edith's Field ' in 2008 to provide a home for our 6 rescue pigs that we had at that time. Unfortunately, they have since died but they lived for far longer than commercial pigs to the age of 17 years.

Since we purchased the field we have gradually added pig housing, field shelters, extra fencing and planted new wild life friendly hedgerows.

Over the years we have provided a home for various animals. At present we have 2 ponies, a cow, 2 calves, 3 goats and 3 pigs.

We have tried to work with nature and have established a wild flower margin and we leave the grass on the pony paddocks to grow in to ' standing hay' which attracts hares, a healthy insect population and is alive with Meadow Brown butterflies in the summer.

Our Passion

Although, none of our animals are kept for commercial purposes we are not anti- farming and we gained our animal husbandry knowledge by working on farms all our lives.

We are passionate about animal welfare and intend to donate half the income from this venture to the 'Humane Slaughter Association,

The H.S.A is a charity dedicated to the improvement of animal welfare during transport, marketing and slaughter in the UK and overseas.

Our second passion is to share the joy and companionship we get from animals with people who perhaps haven't got that opportunity.

What We Offer

Or on a negative note I want to say what we don't offer to avoid disappointment!

We are all about the animals and there is unfortunately no shop on site ( we hope to offer some H.S.A merchandise though ) and we cannot offer refreshments for health and safety reasons, our toilet facilities are very basic ( but better than that at pop concerts ) However, we are close to the village of Malpas which has excellent amenities.

The experience is not suitable for children under 16yrs ( we are close to Magical Malpas and The Cheshire ice cream farm ) so perhaps your partner could take the children there while you have some quiet 'me time.

Please ensure you check the opening hours.

For this experience you need to have good levels of mobility.

Our Animal Experience

  1. A short introduction to Health and Safety.

  2. Meet the ponies and give Taffy a brush.

  3. Meet the pigs - provided there are no race horses on the gallops next door we can exercise the pigs. If you feel comfortable you can give them a scratch and tickle their tummies. In hot weather they can be very muddy as they have to have a mud bath to cool down so we can provide gloves for you. or you may like to take a mud bath with them to improve your skin (no only joking on that one !)

  4. Meet the goats. We have recently bought 2 Golden Guernsey x kids to keep our big goat Gizmo happier. Gizmo is very shy but the babies love to be stroked and cuddled.

  5.  Meet the cattle - MO our Shetland cow doesn't like her head stroked due to her unpleasant experiences at T.B testing but she may like you to give her back and tail a scratch. Our 2 young steers Matthew and Fiver are being trained up to be ' Cuddle Moos ' and so far are doing a very good job. We cannot guarantee the cattle will be lying down for you to cuddle them as they are free spirits and do their own thing
